An intimate psychological film which elaborates the Faustian theme about the dispute between the body and the soul - a study on human identity. Two young doctors carry out the surgical exchange of the brains of two women who are dying after a car accident - a young girl and member of a criminal gang, and a lonely seventy-year-old associate professor of oriental studies. A small Moravian town near Brno in the 1920s. A humorously infused fairy tale about what happens when a dragon is not defeated by a brave prince but by an ordinary Janko. The joy of saving the princess does not last long, as the groom is to be a local village boy who, besides having patched clothes, also lacks good manners. The princess runs away to the real prince Egon, but finds out that it is not the royal title, but a good heart, that matters.

A young soldier, a librarian by profession and a pacifist by nature, reports for basic military service at a border barracks. Bullying reigns supreme at the unit, quietly tolerated by the officers. Private Adam resists and physically attacks the leader of the senior soldiers, but he stands no chance and later ends up in hospital. Private Banýr, an artistic blacksmith in civilian life, is even murdered by the senior soldiers. The librarian and the gypsy Aladar become the main targets of bullying. The two flee together and stage an attempt to escape across the border. Aladar is shot by the senior soldiers and the librarian is detained by border guards, but the entire group of senior soldiers is brought to trial.

The fairy tale is based on two fairy tales by Božena Němcová, "Righteous Bohumil" and "The Black Princess". It tells the story of a weak king and his wife, whose desire for a child leads her to a conspiracy with the devil. The princess, who grows up under the influence of the "impure" powers, only escapes from their power thanks to her love for the fisherman Radek.

The characters in this fairy tale dream of love, but they also crave power. They are capable of helping and loving, but also of betraying. They are brave and weak, beautiful and twisted. A painting of a beautiful maiden was hidden in the darkest tower of the kingdom. The prince discovered it and decided to search for his beautiful maiden in the wide world. His dream girl Mahulena really exists and has long been dreaming of the prince. The prince must overcome the intrigues of the evil stepmother and also fulfill three wishes that Mahulena came up with to get rid of her suitors...
