In 1949 in Hungary during a dictatorship a mother was jailed, her two-year-old son is taken to a foster home where he receives a new name. His mother is freed after 4 years but she fails to find her son because he received a new identity. She pressures the head of the institute with the help of a journalist friend of hers, to reunite the child with his mother. When the child gets reunited with his own mother he doesn't recognize her.

Thirty-something, transsexual Mónika is overwhelmed by hopelessness and despair. Since she can't find a connection with the reality anymore, Mónika attempts suicide, but in the last second, she survives due to the Virgin Mary's sudden apparition, and she declares that Mónika will give birth to a baby.
