Jodie and Tyler are two commercial actors who land a gig with a New York-based creative firm to film a series of ads for an energy utility based in Seattle. The energy company is attempting to promote natural gas and fend off electrification in the region, and Jodie and Tyler make the perfect mother-son combo for their propaganda campaign. In between shoots at the studio, where they learn how to pronounce "Puget Sound" and extol the benefits of cooking on gas stove tops, Jodie and Tyler attempt to break out into new roles in their personal lives, from their relationships and identities to their dreams of being taken seriously as actors.

Conceived as a collaborative project, the film brings together filmmakers from different generations, each directing a short segment portraying encounters between younger and older men. Through these stories, the film examines how attitudes toward desire, relationships, and queer identity shift over time. Moments of curiosity, misunderstanding, attraction, and vulnerability reveal both the gaps and the connections between generations shaped by different social climates. By juxtaposing perspectives formed in eras of repression with those emerging in more open contexts, the film reflects on how LGBTQ+ experiences evolve while shared needs for intimacy, recognition, and connection remain constant. The result is a provocative and intimate mosaic about age, memory, and the changing landscape of queer life.

Shot entirely on super8 film, this touching new film incorporates archival footage shot by Charles Lum in the 1970s and '80s (including footage from his time as an exchange student in Norway), archival footage shot by Todd Verow in the 1980s and '90s, as well as new footage by Verow. With a script based on Lum's stories and cruising diaries, and stories written by Verow, Memorabilia is a beautiful visual homage to love, as well as a testament to its creators' close friendship and mutual understanding in how to tell a story. Charles Lum never saw this film come to life, but he would no doubt have been proud of the result.
