Somber tells the story of three depressed young people, all three in a different phase of the disease. What does depression do to a person? What does it actually mean? And above all, is there a way out?
The film opens with a fictional NOS News broadcast from 2015, reporting that it has been exactly five years since Sharia law was introduced in the Netherlands. This is presented as Wilders' nightmare. Ersin Kiris then poses the question of where Wilders' antipathy towards Muslims comes from. He travels to Wilders' birthplace, Venlo, where he investigates whether ethnic tensions exist. Kiris interviews psychologist Bram Bakker about Wilders' youth. He also speaks with political scientist André Krouwel about Wilders' strategy and how he, as a Muslim, must deal with it. Additionally, De Tegenfilm features animations with caricatures of Wilders.
