Based on the novel of the same name by Fyodor Dostoevsky. A penniless girl marries a pawnbroker. The spouses do not understand each other because of the difference in age and social status.

The main character is an executioner from the 1930s who carries out the sentences of the Triumvirate. The gravity of his case follows him everywhere - in his family, among his acquaintances, and does not give him rest, until he himself becomes a victim of the system he serves.
