A simple firefighter, Yasha Ptashkin, dreams of heroism, but no one takes his made-up stories seriously. He is in love with Dr. Vika. In his attempts to attract her attention, Ptashkin constantly finds himself in ridiculous situations.

The story is based on a play by Ivan Kocherha about love against the backdrop of the craftsmen's uprising in Kyiv in the 16th century. The drama and the animation take place simultaneously in Podil, the center of bourgeois and craftsman life, and on mount Vzdykhalnytsia, where the Lithuanian castle is located. The director Tadeush Pavlenko takes the last three acts of Kocherha's play as a basis, placing the female character Melanka, the beloved of Ivan Svichka, at the center of the plot.

A new counselor appears in the pioneer camp, whom the guys called the Beard. Boy Petya notices that Beard has a rather strange behavior. The boy decides to figure out what is happening together with his girlfriend Tanya.

The kid by the name of Tomshik recently often dreamed that he could fly. And now his dream came true! The boy was delighted with his new abilities. The plot is based on genuine events: a tendency to abandon subversive activities and surrender of one of the leaders of the Ukrainian counter-revolutionary underground, coroner general Y. Tyutyunnik. The young Chekist Sashko Kovalchuk infiltrates the Kiev counter-revolutionary underground.

Epic in content and stylized as Byzantine icons in form, the animation is inspired by Kyiv myths and the masterpiece of ancient Ukrainian lyrics "The Tale of Ihor's Campaign". The film won a special jury prize at the Nyon (Switzerland) festival.
