The film presents the evolution of Ștefan Gheorghiu, from a humble worker in Concordia oil company to a journalist, then a fighter for workers' rights and organizer of the trade union movement in Romania.

Sergiu, Laura and Smache are three high school graduates who make plans for the future. An idyll is born between Sergiu and Laura, but due to the opposition of the girl's parents and the fact that the young man is recruited, she will marry someone else. After a few years, the paths of the three meet again. Sergiu is on the verge of graduating from college and Laura, now divorced, is a piano teacher.

The protagonist fights for his ideas and ultimately succeeds in imposing them when the First Secretary of the County Party Committee intervenes, leading to the exposure of the factory’s failures, the triumph of the “new,” and a proper understanding of the concept of “socialist property.
