Early 20th century. Two village boys, brothers Semyon and Pavel, work as servants for a Moscow merchant. They face harsh exploitation and hard labor. The brothers' paths diverge. Unable to endure the merchant's abuse, Pavel leaves for a factory, becomes a worker, and later a revolutionary. Semyon remains in service. In the post-revolutionary period, Semyon, having served at the front and returned to the village, joins the kulaks and brutally cracks down on representatives of the Soviet government, becoming the leader of a gang of "badgers" hiding in the forests. A Red Army detachment led by Pavel is sent to fight the bandits.

A young official, ambitious, but holding idealistic views, doesn't want to curry favor, or use patronage, although he is ready to live, albeit poorly, but honestly. He's subjected to increasing pressure from others who believe that material well-being is more important than principles, and he increasingly fights with his wife over money.

The film is a play about the collapse of the Vanyushins merchant family. The head of the family is a stranger to his children. The insight turned out to be cruel: sharp contradictions, anger, enmity, greed tear the family apart. Not finding a way out of this situation, he commits suicide.

The soldier returned home after the end of the war. And now we need to get used to a peaceful life again, a wife, children who grew up without him.

The story takes place in 1921, during the early days of the commune established in a Siberian village.

Galina, the daughter of the manager of the city branch of the State Bank Roman Stepanovich Kruchi, and brought up by him alone from the age of three, is marrying the furniture factory director Andrei Tur. It turns out that Andrey, having received a bank loan for the plant, cannot return it on time, since the plant produced defective products that were not accepted by the customer. Andrey is removed from work and together with Galina he leaves for a new place of work.

The hero saw among his colleagues a man whom he had met during the war in the dungeons of the Gestapo. This man reported that a thief from the same cell was trying to escape. The “thief” was shot, and later it turned out that he was the leader of the underground...

The experienced collective farm chairman, Berest, is replaced by a young specialist, economist Bocharova, who strives to reorganize the farm's operations.

In a bustling location, Vukol Ermolayevich Bessudny set up his inn: by day, a hospitable host, by night – a robber and thief. He welcomes wealthy merchants, drugs them with a sleep potion, and robs them on the forest road. Meanwhile, his wife, Yevgeniya Mironovna, waits for her lover, the handsome landowner Milovidov, whenever Vukol goes off on his nightly raids. Vukol's sister, Annushka, is also in love with the young nobleman. The dense forests, harsh customs, merchant bravado, and jealous women… Trouble is brewing!

Lipa and Vera had been friends since childhood. Now, having finished their boarding school, each of them faces her own path in life. Tormented by poverty, Lipa is forced to marry the old, dull, and cruel Tolokonnikov. However, she cannot bear the tyranny of the cowardly official for long. Leaving her husband, she departs from Rasteryaeva Street. Vera's life turned out differently. Fleeing with a hussar, she spent several turbulent years, but, exhausted, she returned once again to Rasteryaeva Street. And nothing had changed there.

The daughter of a general in the missile forces decided to prove that a modern woman can serve in the army just as well as a man. The battery commander and his subordinate, the heroine of the play, fall in love with each other.

Two fugitives are making their way through the Soviet territory occupied by the Germans. Their goal is to find a partisan unit or cross the front line. One of them is a sixteen-year-old boy, Stepan, a local resident. The other is a Soviet officer who escaped captivity, whom Stepan miraculously saved from death.
