A girl (Alice Babs) from the country moves to Stockholm to become a singer.

Knatten and Janne, just released from the prison of Långholmen, meet a romantic Stockholm in the 40s. Knatten tries to earn money while Janne is looking for the music.

A gang of unemployed itinerant musicians play in the south of Stockholm. Then they get the chance to be an orchestra in a dance restaurant. It goes well until the female owner falls in love with one of them.

Sonja meet Curt in a taxi cab. By mistake, each believes that the other is a rich member of the upper class. They meet on a date, but since neither wants to reveal the truth about themselves, they both get more and more caught in the web of lies they have produced.
