The story of the life of the Podolsk village and what the inhabitants of the village had to go through during the years of Soviet power. Through the fate of the heroes, the film tells about the events of collectivization in the village, where for centuries, everyone used to work only on his own farm, about the war years, when many quiet people showed miracles of heroism, and universal favorites became nazi puppets.

The travellers fall in love, but are parted when they arrive at their destination. In the Carpathian mountains their paths diverge, but Boris (played by Vasyl Zinkevych, soloist of the instrumental band "Smerichka") discovers where she is staying. The couple meet again and rekindle their love. Their friends invite them to perform in a concert for vacationers at a mountain resort, where they sing about their feelings for each other.

She is in a hurry in her affairs, and the enthusiastic composer follows her relentlessly. And every sound he hears becomes part of a new melody for him. The finale of the film is a panorama of Kyiv to the song "Two Colors".

Major Uralov, an officer, marries a local woman, and they have a daughter, Alenka, who dies. The artist Bogutovsky, who lives in the captivity of false pompous art, carries the burden of past years... After hearing Illarion's story, the writer Iskra destroys the manuscript of his play: life turns out to be much more complicated than he imagined.
