In May 1941, Major General Golovko, commander of the Soviet Northern Fleet in the Murmansk region of the Soviet Arctic, foresaw the imminent outbreak of war and ordered the training of future special operations personnel for enemy rear operations at naval bases. Civilian female Martha was also invited to the base for training due to her excellent shooting skills. On June 22nd, the Patriotic War broke out, and the German army built a shore artillery position on the Norwegian coast, seriously threatening the safety of Soviet ships and Allied Soviet aid fleets entering and exiting the port of Murmansk. The Golovko pirates ordered the assault team to destroy the German shore artillery position and control it in the hands of the Soviet army. Martha and the assault team embarked on the journey.

The Great Patriotic War, winter 1941. Food supplies ran out and supplies were blocked. Besieged Leningrad was dying of hunger: 125 grams of bread per day were given to employees, dependents and children. It was then that a gang appeared in the city, engaged in fraud and robbery. The criminals were mainly engaged in forgery of food cards. The name of their gang, ZIG ZAG, stood for "Defenders of German Interests —The Banner of Adolf Hitler."

In Crimea, Ukraine, in 1942, the tide of war seems to be turning, and the Red Army, which had been on the verge of defeat, is gradually gaining ground against the Wehrmacht, which is now in retreat. Another survivor is flight navigator Linko, who ejected from the plane. Each of them has to find his way and perform military tasks, return to his own forces and simply to stay alive. The situation becomes more complicated because of an act of sabotage, which has been committed before their take-off at the aerodrome. Honest Grivtsov gets on the bad side of the colonel of SMERSH by defending his friends. Instead of being granted a medal "Star" for his 100th flight, he is pronounced a traitor and is to be executed.

During the Second World War, a Soviet plane crashes in the territory occupied by the Germans, but the pilot Grivtsov and his beloved radio operator Katya, who were flying in it on a mission, miraculously escape. Navigator Linko also managed to survive. Each of them will now have to find their own way to complete a combat mission, return to their own and survive...

After losing their weapons and escaping from German captivity, they take a stand against overwhelming enemy forces. The story continues through 1942–1943, where the main characters face even greater danger and increasingly dramatic trials.
