Afghanistan, Spring 2002 — Following the fall of the taliban regime, the country faces extreme poverty. To feed his family, a father is forced to sell his 15-year-old daughter to a 65-year-old man. Refusing to accept this fate for her child, the mother, determined to give her a brighter future, arranges a marriage with a man living in Montreal. In return, she makes a solemn promise: the children born of this union will one day marry their cousins remaining in Afghanistan. Montreal, Spring 2020 — The pact resurfaces. Now well integrated into Quebec society, Zarmina refuses to let her 15-year-old daughter marry her cousin in Afghanistan. Her firm opposition triggers a tragic chain of events.

Immediately after the US pullout from Afghanistan, Taliban forces occupied the Hollywood Gate complex, which is claimed to be a former CIA base in Kabul.

Three Afghan women from different social background, living in Kabul, are facing a big challenge in their lives. Hava, a traditional pregnant woman whom no one cares about, is living with her father- and mother-in-law. Her only joy is talking to the baby in her belly. Maryam, an educated TV news reporter, is about to get a divorce from her unfaithful husband that finds out she is pregnant. Ayesha, an 18-year-old girl, accepts to marry her cousin because she is pregnant from her boyfriend who disappears after hearing her pregnancy news. Therefore, she needs to find a doctor to get an abortion and regain her virginity. Each of them has to solve her problem by herself for the first time.

Sardinia 2017. The starting point for the film is one of the most loved lands in the Mediterranean, using it to enter into the world of cinema. Ten international masters of cinema explain Fiorenzo Serra's images, one of the greatest post-war Italian documentary makers. His masterpiece, "The last punch of Earth", will be analyzed and debated, a film which examined Italian change and European reflection.

The Taliban have taken over her country and Zibaa must take the most difficult choice: staying and facing potential death or leaving. But fleeing means separating herself forever from her fiancé Samir.
