Mysterious murders has been committed in four post-communist cities: Warsaw, Prague, Odesa, and Leipzig. The investigations are carried out by three absolutely different in many aspects criminal police officers. Independently of one another, they soon come to the conclusion that all four murders are connected. Now, to solve the crimes they have to work together.

Warsaw, 1909. Arthur Herling makes an assassination attempt on a Russian police official and his family. During the action, the officer's daughter is killed and his wife is maimed. The wounded militant is arrested. Tormented by remorse, Herling agrees to cooperate with the tsarist authorities as a provocateur. Into his cell comes Adam Tanski, suspected of having contacts with the wanted conspirator Andrzej Woyda. One day, while being transported in a prison ambulance, Herling kills the guards. Accompanying him, Adam urges him to escape to the mountains.

On their wedding day in occupied Poland, poet Tadeusz brings Sarah, the Jewish woman he rescued from a Gestapo officer, to the celebration, only for her captor Cieślik to crash the party and force her into an impossible choice: become his lover or betray her to the Nazis. Filip Zylber’s debut uses Tomasz Stańko’s music and expanded characterizations to breathe new poetic life into Borowski’s terse wartime tale.

Boris, whom she met at the wedding of her young friend Sabina, is an architect, has a wife and two sons. He has never cheated on his wife and tries to be a good husband and father.
