Summer 1949: end of the civil war in Greece. The last band of guerrillas of the Democratic Army is forced to abandon Mount Taygetus and to head for the sea. Everything behind them has collapsed and they can count on help from no one. In this long, desperate and aimless march, the group will end up by being annihilated by the National Army and the armed villagers.

A left-wing ideologist reaches the limits of suicide, experiencing a deep crisis. He tries to write a book about everything that once existed, but has changed today. Everything around him seems distant. The friends, the family, the Party from which he withdrew. His hope for a different future is virtually dead.

Shadow puppetry is not only part of the heritage of East Asia; Greece had its own traditional form of this popular art. In this leisurely drama, set in 1950s Athens, Antonis Barkis (Kostas Kasakos) is the master puppeteer for a traditional shadow show. However, although he is still making a living, it is clear that other forms of popular entertainment will soon supplant this one. This does not improve Antonis' temper, and his assistant's desires to modernize their entertainments only make it worse.

Stratos, a marginal figure, carries on his shoulders the freedom and doubts of his generation.
