An aging train engineer, Nikolai Yegorovich, retires and decides to revive the railway brass band that once existed in his youth. He sets out to convince its former members to return, but not everyone shares his enthusiasm or understands his vision.

Zhenya is divorced a long time ago, raising her five-year-old son alone, working in a clinic, and part-time as an ambulance worker.
