Tehran, 1948. A young Jewish couple, Danial and his wife Munes, decide to immigrate to the recently founded state of Israel. But their application is rejected on the ground of the documents against Danial's uncle, Yaghub, how is suspected of betrayal. A Zionist agent, named Yezghel, finds out Yaghub's home and stabs him. One of Yaghub's neighbours who witnesses the crime is blamed for murder. Fearing for their lives, Munes and Danial escape to the north of Iran in order to leave the country. The Neighbour's brother, Nuri, a journalist, sets off on their heels to bring them to the court to give testimony on his brother's innocence.

Before getting to the security office, the culprit is set up and left alone with his interrogator for an hour so that maybe they could get the information they need. That hour they spend together means something different to each of them and they both glimpse at their different stages of life in one day and live their lives backwards. The two men stroll in an unknown city and come to their young days. The time ends. The interrogator who’s been impressed by the culprit, tries to get him back to life and since he doesn’t succeed in doing so, he goes mad.

Qasim takes her to a friend's house, and Zari, after regaining consciousness, starts a brawl. The two gradually become interested in each other. Qasim steals the guests' purses at a party at her house, and Zari's stepmother sees him. Zari leaves her stepmother's house and takes refuge with Qasim, and Qasim marries her. Qasim, unable to find a decent job, robs a jewelry store after discovering that Zari is pregnant and is killed by a bullet fired by his father while trying to escape.

On 5 June four hijackers, three men and a woman, hijack an Iranian passenger aircraft. Their commander is a person named Fariborz Atabaki [Nasser Aghayi]. Two of the passengers, one of whom later turns out to be an officer, disarm the hijackers; to the astonishment of the passengers they guide the aircraft to the same European destination the hijackers had intended. The original planners of the hijack hold a press conference at the destination. They say all the passengers are seeking asylum and ask the officer to tell the journalists his views. He says his reason for bringing the aircraft here is to show the world the passengers have no interest in political or social asylum; they all want to return to Iran.
