Biography
Christian Banisrael has been pursuing a professional career in the film industry since 2012. He started his career as an art director, then began to learn film scriptwriting, and several times served as an assistant director for short films. In 2018, he directed his very first short film with his very own script titled “Gejog (Mist of the Past)” which participated in the Hong Kong International Film Festival 2019, and Pedhut (A Grandpa’s Uniform and the Other Things of Fear) 2021 was selected to compete at SeaShort Film Festival 2022.

Going Along the Side

The Gejog mythology has been flourished mostly among amongst the Javanese. This myth is believed as the spirit army of Nyai Roro Kidul, searching for tumbal, or victims, to be turned into spirits of the abdi dalem. Dipa, a 10-year-old child who lives in one of the villages in Java, is always overshadowed by the appearance of Gejog itself. Dipa is curious with how the spirit army looks like.

To pay off his loan debt, Togog, a casual laborer, is squeezed by circumstances and is forced to fish in a river filled with the remains of bodies that have drifted away. According to myth, fishing at the place of the dead will bring good luck. But unfortunately it wasn't luck that Togog got, it was actually a disaster that he created himself.
