In 2026, eleven years after the introduction of internet-connected augmented reality eyeglasses and visors, Yūko Okonogi moves with her family to the city of Daikoku, the technological center of the emerging half-virtual world. Yūko joins her grandmother's "investigation agency" made up of children equipped with virtual tools and metatags. As their research turns up mounting evidence of children who have been whisked away to the mysterious "other side" of reality, they find themselves entangled in a conspiracy to cover up the dangerous true nature and history of the new technology.
Nishihama Junior High School is haunted by the legend of Sayoko. Every three years a student is chosen to play the role of Sayoko by his or her predecessor. Sayoko has three missions to accomplish. If they are completed it is to the advantage of the school. If not, the school is doomed... Shu has been chosen to be Sayoko. Disbelieving the legend, Shu lets his pal Rei assume the role. Koto Nakazawa (Meisa Kuroki) learned from her father Emon Mago (Masahiko Nishimura) "Hoshinryu" which is a Japanese fencing school of thought. She leaves her hometown to become stronger. Koto Nakazawa and her older Sadamasa (Michitaka Tsutsui) take part in "Roshigumi" ("Kyoto Defenders") led by Hachiro Kiyokawa (Mansaku Ikeuchi). One day, she stops outlaws who threaten merchants. When she is about to use her sword, Ryoma Sakamoto (Masaya Kato) stops her.
