The story of Basia and Tadeusz, a Polish couple going through a crisis, living in the huge house of Magda Lipińska, Tadeusz's mother. Magda is a domineering mother-in-law who strives for perfection both in business and family matters. Thanks to Basia and Tadeusz, refugees arrive at Magda's house: two Ukrainian women, Anna and little Waria, which turns the protagonist's world upside down.

An innocent cab driver is mistaken for a contract killer and imprisoned. Soon, he is sprung by a mob boss who needs a "killer" for a few more jobs.

When Marcin dies in an accident, his family mourns. However, instead of seeking reconciliation, the relatives of the deceased furiously scratch fresh wounds. The atmosphere in the house thickens with each word spoken because neither the brother nor the parents were prepared for the young man's departure. Mutual relations also become more complicated, and attempts to start a conversation do not lead to an agreement. To make matters worse, the question returns more and more clearly: who is to blame for this death?

Vasyl follows his wife, who escaped to an Orthodox clergyman who is to heal her of infertility.
