Three students visit a small Peruvian village and come face to face with a werellama, the product of an incestous relationship

María is a teenager, from a rural environment, who is late for her first period. She experiences the transformations of her body as something monstrous, she is a shy young woman who suffers abuse, isolation and discrimination in school. Her family and the community do not tolerate her because of her own behavior, a man, these attitudes will be reason for her classmates, led by Aquiles, to humiliate her physically and psychologically.

The story is about Gregorio, a young man of humble origins who steals from his father, Don Rufino, to buy liquor. Gregorio is violent, unwilling to work, and constantly lies. He becomes depressed when he remembers his deceased mother and feels unsupported by his father, who is always scolding him. Driven by jealousy, Gregorio kills his girlfriend in the countryside simply for talking to another young man who was courting her. He flees in terror and seeks refuge at a village festival, gets drunk, and tries to seduce a girl who rejects him. The tormented spirit of his girlfriend haunts him, and he hides in his house.

After terrorism striked, the youth of Huamanga turned to street gangs, violence and alcohol.

The story told in Souls in Torment begins with a well-known urban legend (a characteristic that one of the characters in the film emphasizes). Mélinton (Edgar Palomino), a young truck driver, picks up a woman on the highway who appears in the middle of the night and asks him to take her to a nearby town. He takes her and agrees to meet her the next day, later discovering that the woman in question had died a year earlier, which triggers a series of events marked by the horror of the supernatural experience.
