Alexey Titarenko is very talented pilot and brave leader of "Singing group". He also must look after some new cadets and fight together with them against German Luftwaffe planes. Close to Alexey always are his friends, they are all from different parts of the country, but they all became real brothers.

A seriously ill patient is brought to the clinic of a research institute. Young doctor Falko, a resident at the institute, insists on an urgent operation, but his supervisor Druz believes that in this case therapeutic treatment will be more effective and, moreover, will not be associated with risk. Professor Shostenko nevertheless undertakes to operate on the patient. The successfully completed operation confirms the diagnosis made by Falko. Parallel to the events in the clinic, the action unfolds in the house of the director of the institute Shostenko, where his son Igor returns after a three-year absence. The complicated relationship between Igor and his wife, the love story of Shostenko's daughter and Druz - the canvas of the second plot of the film.

Boris Zhadanovsky, a hereditary nobleman and officer who was predicted to have a brilliant military career, sides with the rebellious people. In 1905, Zhadanovsky is sentenced to death for his revolutionary activities. However, a powerful strike movement organized in response to the court's decision forces the tsarist government to commute the sentence to life imprisonment. After the revolution, Zhadanovsky joins the Red Army and dies fighting the White Army.

About hardships of the first years of War, which fell to the lot of ordinary people in Ukraine, who got under the yoke of fascist occupation, and heroic struggle against the invaders. A young Russian woman asks a Red Army soldier to spend the night with her in the wake of the Nazi invasion. Fearing she may soon perish, the woman hopes for one night of romance before what could be a horrible demise.

In February 1918, the Russian ship Orion, carrying weapons for two divisions, is delayed in Plymouth due to the Russian Revolution. The British order it to Arkhangelsk, but it secretly sails to Vladivostok. Pursued by the British, a German submarine, and with a divided crew, the Orion raises the red flag upon reaching Russia. However, Vladivostok is controlled by interventionists, so the ship fights back to sea and delivers weapons to coastal partisans.

Anatoly Ruchyov is quite a talented guy. One day he decides to enter a prestigious Soviet university — the institute of international relations. But, alas, he overestimates his strength and doesn't achieve his goal. This saddens the young man a little, but he doesn't even think to lower his hands. Anatoly decides to go to military service and reach heights in this area. At first, it is a little lost, but, after the time has elapsed, it is mastered, because there is nowhere to go. Slowly he turns into a real exemplary fighter.
