KVN is a Russian humour TV show and competition where teams compete by giving funny answers to questions and showing prepared sketches. The programme was first aired by the First Soviet Channel on November 8, 1961. Eleven years later, in 1972, when few programmes were being broadcast live, Soviet censors found the students' impromptu jokes offensive and anti-Soviet and banned KVN. The show was revived fourteen years later during the Perestroika era in 1986, with Alexander Maslyakov as its host. It is one of the longest-running TV programmes on Russian Television. It also has its own holiday on November 8, the birthday of the game, which KVN players celebrate every year since it was announced and widely celebrated for the first time in 2001.

Four hosts discuss some current news and comment on different issues in politics and economics, similar to 7 Tage, 7 Köpfe. The show's name is a reference to the 80s TV program "Прожектор Перестройки" - a program that was discussing current events on Soviet television during the times of Perestroika - and American socialite Paris Hilton, who, according to Svetlakov, symbolizes lack of taste. Thus, the name of the show implies that this is a current events program that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Lyubanya, a hairdresser who has lost her job, and her eleven-year-old son find themselves in a difficult situation. She tries to borrow money from his girlfriend Simkina. She agrees to help, but only on the condition that Lyubanya will help her regain the man she loved, a certain Valeriy. Lyubanya must "accidentally" get acquainted with him and pretend to be his ideal, and when he falls in love with the "woman of his dreams" — leave him. Then Simkina will appear to "glue" Valeriy's broken heart, and at the same time their broken relationship. Out of desperation, Lyubanya joins in this game, but very quickly realizes that she has fallen in love. The heroine faces the question: how to tell Valeriy the truth about himself and their "casual" acquaintance?
The plot is tied to unusual works of art. Each of the paintings depicts a sleeping man, and the soul is enclosed in the canvas itself. This curse came to the modern world from an artist who loves his wife to madness. When she was dying, the master, by the power of his feelings, imprisoned her soul in a portrait. This legend inspired businessman Pavel Voronov to collect a collection of paintings with sleeping heroes. Photographer Kostya and art critic Agnes help him in this. The artist Alexey Tikhonov is also hunting for unusual paintings, who dreams of continuing the work of the master and learning how to enclose souls in portraits.
