During the later years of the Kangxi Emperor's rule, his many sons were vying for the throne. The fourth prince, aided by Lusi, Nian Gengyao, and Han Chong, while the fourteenth prince had the support of martial arts master Zeng Jing. The competition between the two became intense. Lusi developed a romantic relationship with the fourth prince while Zeng Jing also had feelings for her, making their situation more complicated. The Zu Mountain Saga was a loose sequel to The Gods and Demons of Zu Mountain (蜀山奇俠) that aired in 1990. The story take place a hundred years after The Gods and Demons of Zu Mountain. Evil has been reborn in the Zu Mountain, who is ostracized by his village, as a demon. He meets Yu Ying Nam and Wo Mei Pai and from there they face many challenges that would question evil and good.
Jia Yucun, a scholar, is exiled to Yangzhou and becomes a guest of the salt inspector, Lin Ruhai. He teaches Lin's daughter, Lin Daiyu, and escorts her to the Jia family's Rongguo Mansion. Jia Yucun helps Daiyu's uncle, Jia Zheng, and is reinstated. Daiyu becomes close to her cousin, Jia Baoyu, but Wang Xifeng, a daughter-in-law, schemes to marry Baoyu to Xue Baochai, a relative of the family's matriarch. When Baoyu falls ill after losing a jade, the family forces him to marry Xue Baochai, pretending that she is actually Daiyu. Daiyu is heartbroken and dies shortly after. The family eventually declines, and Baoyu becomes a monk.
In the future, a rogue cop uses the Power Glove, a device that gives its wearer super powers, to further a malicious agenda leading to a clash between the forces of good and evil.
