This intimate chamber drama, set in a maternity ward, follows the emotional crises of three women as they grapple with motherhood.

The drinker David Holm gets killed right on the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve will face the death coachman, which happens to be his old friend Georges. Together, reliving the events of the past, and David becomes aware that he ruined the lives of two women who both loved him.

A series of modernist sketches. A bunch of songs by Olle Adolphson, Owe Thörnqvist, Beppe Wolgers and Lars Forsell are performed in the film. The most famous, Mitt egen land, is sung by Monica Nielsen. Three years before it was first heard on record, then by the composer himself, Olle Adolphson.
