1941 year. The flagship of the head detachment of the Black Sea Fleet gives an order to one of the submarines to remove the crew from the damaged torpedo boat. An enemy cruiser discovers a Soviet submarine and bombards it with bombs. Submarine forced to lie down. But the task will be completed - and the enemy will take flight.

Arkasha Pryakhin, the son of a cook, is accepted by the "ladies' committee" as a free pupil at the gymnasium. Treasury discipline, reigning in this educational institution, methodically kills in students a genuine love of knowledge. Gymnasium students, resisting the soulless school system, invent all sorts of pranks, sometimes very evil. The film tells the story of an ordinary guy Anton Kandidov. First he works on agricultural work — transports on boat on Volga watermelons. Noticing how deftly Anton catches and loads watermelons, he is told that he could become a goalkeeper and play football. And he decides to follow the advice. One of the capital’s kindergartens is attended by the children of a German specialist, Mart and August, and the children of a Soviet shock-worker engine driver, Yulik and Maika.
