Walrus and his wife run the Walrus Hotel, which acrobats Mr. & Mrs. Ambrose are staying at. Walrus gets a letter from his insurance broker Mr. Cinder demanding a payment. Short on cash, Walrus decides to get his tenants' money now. Ambrose and his wife are in the middle of a domestic squabble when Walrus pays a visit, and his presence only makes things worse. Mr. Cinder visits Walrus himself, and he carelessly throws his cigarette into a trash can. After he leaves, the hotel catches on fire and the rest of the film is a thrilling five-minute race to pay off the insurance!

A man falls in love with a piano player and tries to woo her. A passerby hears a maid's music, fancies he's found his true love, and chats her up. Her boyfriend arrives for his music lesson and jealously dismisses the interloper, who swipes a grinder's organ (and monkey) to help him serenade the maid. Later he follows the boyfriend to a residence hotel and plants a bomb in the man's piano. The organ-grinder is gunning for the thief, and soon the piano, bomb, monkey, thief, and pistol-packing grinder are rolling down the road to the delight of maid and lover. It's ka-boom for some and a kiss for others.

An explosives and black powder expert visits a powder factory in order to inspect it, but when he appears to be more interested in its female workers, an explosive situation results.

Marksman Ambrose accidentally shoots a beer stein his wife has bought for him as a gift, so he tries to replace it.

Two clownish stagehands make life difficult for the manager and cast of a dramatic production.

King Ambrose chooses a queen from among the maidens of his kingdom. After they are married, Robin, a young man the queen had known earlier, attempts to steal her from her royal husband. Robin shoots arrows with notes attached and the queen initially runs away with him. The queen, however, rejects her former suitor in favor of the king after Ambrose saves her from a snake. Her rejected suitor plots with the jester to bomb the palace but their plot backfires.

Swain and Conklin, two international secret service men of questionable reputation, have taken up headquarters in an underground refuge from which they direct their operations. They are engaged in an effort to steal a valuable code book from Prime Minister Cogley.

A country girl and a foppish Englishman are to inherit an estate, and the terms say that it can't be divided: The two must get married, and if one refuses, then the other gets the entire estate. The girl schemes with her twin brother to trick the Englishman out of his part of the inheritance. The girl's corn-fed crush helps out, while the twins' father dreams of being force-fed dog sausage.

Pa Droppington sneaks out of the house to go to the theatre. Amid comic capers he is smitten by a dancer. Meanwhile his son is telling Ma that he's in love with a dancer! She is not happy but he takes her to the theatre (for her birthday). She sees hubby and chases him around, he's also chased by another performer. The son calls a clergyman, Pa saves the girl and they marry at the end.

Thinking he’s performing a good deed stagehand Droppington causes the breakup of the current show when he turns the full strength of the hose on what he supposes to be a fire in the theater. The fact of the matter is magician Mephisto was performing one of his tricks, hence the smoke.
