City of the Shadows is original Slovak crime TV series, broadcast since April 11, 2008 on the Markíza. It was produced by DNA Production company. The episodes are based on real events. TV series received the "Televízna udalosť roka“ Award by film critics.
When ten-year-old Alice's parents mysteriously vanish one day, she turns to a spirited group of young detectives for help. Their mission becomes more challenging when her brother Milan must join their investigation. He can't be left alone, and wherever Alice goes, he goes too. Milan sees and experiences the world differently, and what starts as a complication soon becomes their greatest strength. It is composed of ten 10-minute films of different genres ranging from drama, through animation and documentaries, to experimental film. The ten recognised film directors who offer an answer to what is Slovakia include a wide range of generations, views and genres, namely Juraj Herz, Martin Šulík, Peter Kerekes, Zuzana Liová, Mišo Suchý, Ondrej Rudavský, Iveta Grófová, Peter Krištúfek, Viera Čákanyová, and Miro Jelok.
