Zarif was born in 1938 in Gujranwala, Punjab, British India as Mohammad Siddiq. He is known for his work on Chhumantar (1958), Jatti (1958) and Rani Khan (1960). He died on October 30, 1960 in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.
