Helena is a sweet, honest, sensitive and a warrior woman who faces the premature pregnancy of her daughter Joyce, who in turn is abandoned by her boyfriend, the irresponsible Caio. The story begins in 1951 in Kubanacan, a small Caribbean island country known as a"banana republic", both for its prime export and its economic problems. After the death of the current president, General Carlos Camacho imposes a coup d'état and establishes a dictatorial regime. In addition, the new ruler marries the wife of her predecessor, Mercedes, first lady loved by the people for her help to the poor and with whom she had an affair for years. In the village of Santiago, a mysterious man falls from the sky during a storm with a chest shot, being saved by the fishermen and cared for by Marisol. Without memory, Esteban falls in love with the girl and disputes his heart with her husband, Enrico, who leaves and lets his ex-wife live with the new love, who takes over her two children. Seven years later, in 1958, Marisol meets Camacho, who convinces her to leave and live as his mistress, claiming she would never get out of poverty in the village.

The plot revolves around the youthful romance and subsequent reunion years later between Ramiro, the leader of a fishing village in Fortaleza, and the businesswoman Letícia.

The main plot revolves around a hidden treasure. The story begins when a gang steals ten million dollars worth of diamonds in Uruguay. To escape the police, one of the thieves, Rodolfo Torres de Almeida, flees to Argentina. His partner, Ivo Simeone, travels to São Paulo with the jewels. Ivo decides to hide the precious stones and, to ensure he doesn't forget the hiding place, has a map tattooed above the buttocks of a girl, the daughter of his neighbor. The thief takes care to photograph the girl so he can identify her in the future. Ivo is arrested and, eight years later, when he gets out of jail, he is run over and killed. Before dying, however, he manages to tell his son Rodrigo the secret about the treasure map. The young man follows the clues given by his father and discovers that the young woman with the tattooed map is Elisa, a novice nun cloistered in a convent, about to take perpetual vows.
