CERN, the world's largest physics laboratory, is also a society in itself. A mythological microcosm and science's answer to the Tower of Babel, with its many thousand employees as an indispensable element among cables and computers. The researchers speak the same esoteric and nerdy language. But their physical trials are not the only experiments in the human anthill. CERN is also a utopian experiment in collaboration across cultures, where the world's most advanced technology meets the world's sharpest—and some of the quirkiest—minds.

1944: Silenzio sul Monte Sole

The history of the Pilastro district begins in the '60s, with some council houses a few miles from the center of Bologna, built to meet the demand for housing for the growing number of immigrants in the post-war period. Under the shadow of the Virgolone, one of the largest residential buildings in the city, grows a neighborhood with almost 7000 inhabitants, often rising at the center of media attention for its crime sagas. Through the history of a neighborhood and its inhabitants, the film explores the relationship between city spaces and daily experiences, in a context where challenges and contradictions in urban development are evident.

La Ville Engloutie
"The Pilastro district is a public housing complex built in the 1960s on the outskirts of Bologna. It is known to the public for episodes of crime. Through the history of Pilastro and the lives of its residents, the documentary explores the relationship between architectural design and lived experience — between the planning of a space and the act of inhabiting it. It raises questions about urban development, suburban areas, and the integration of new city dwellers, reflecting on how cities are changing, with new challenges and opportunities."
