Biography
Julian Roffman was a cross-border director who made most of his films in the United States. He was responsible for two notable low-budget horror films: The Bloody Brood and The Mask, the first feature to use 3-D in Canada. He studied film in New York and in 1940 joined the NFB where he became responsible for the Armed Service Production program. In the late 1950s, he joined forces with distributor Nat Taylor to form Taylor-Roffman Productions and produce the two features.

The Bloody Brood

Elizabeth is a historian who believes that she is on to the find of her career, but has difficulty getting access to the document that will prove her theory. In desperation, she and a friend decide to break into the owner's house. She successfully gets in but is unexpectedly caught by the owner. She and the friend have to make up a story to get them out of trouble which eventually leads to string of events that lands Elizabeth in even more hot water.

THe life and work of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelty are vividly recalled in this Pictorial Films production through a moving photographic study of his home. All the things and places pertinent to FDR at Hyde Park, New York are shown in the film , handsomely and reverently directed and photographed by Jullian Roffman. Accompanying the pictorial record is a commentary by Norman Rose and some excellent music composed and conducted by Irving Landau.
FDR Hyde Park
Produced by the North Carolina Board of Health and sponsored by the New York-based Mental Health Film Board, this film focuses on "the trials of adolescence," in particular the experiences of a girl named Susan who feels misunderstood by her parents and others. She chafes against their rules, and is also deeply disappointed when she doesn't get the part in the school play that she was expecting. She feels lonely and unimportant. A sympathetic adult from school helps her talk through her concerns, encouraging Susan to try to understand her parents' need to protect her. This adult also speaks with Susan's mother, and encourages tolerance of adolescent ups and downs, the importance of listening to one's child, and flexibility in household rules.
