The brothers of Yusuf (Joseph), jealous of their father Yaqub’s (Jacob's) love for him, throw him into a well. A caravan rescues Yusuf, and years later he is sold as a slave in the market of Egypt. Zulaikha, Yusuf's owner, falls in love with him, and after an incident, the Aziz of Egypt (Zulaikha’s husband) has him imprisoned. Seven years later, Yusuf is released due to his interpretation of the Pharaoh’s dream and rises to the rank of Aziz of Egypt.

Ali gets a job and, by dint of dedication and patience, achieves a significant promotion and ends up becoming the manager of the company, as well as winning Meltem's love. However, this is not to the liking of his cousin Cihangir and his father, who instead are totally broke and want to get their revenge on Ali.

The pleasant voice of "Nemat," a young man from Ahvaz, causes "Jamshid," the owner of a cabaret in Tehran, to gain popularity and wealth. However, when Nemat tries to use his talent for his own benefit, Jamshid, who has suffered losses, seeks revenge by trying to marry Ameneh by giving money to her father. But Ameneh, who is in love with Nemat, throws herself into the river and commits suicide, and Jamshid falls into the claws of justice.

Haji Jabbar is a wealthy man, who is chided constantly by his family for avarice. Haji intends to marry off his daughter, Parvin, to a wealthy old man. He has no regard for the love existing between Parvin and her cousin. He does not care for his son, Hamid, who, due to negligence, is on the verge of a breakdown. In an elaborate fantasy sequence which makes up the last third of the film, Haji finds himself in hell, witness to all sorts of macabre and elaborate tortures and horrors. The film is noted for its elaborate set pieces which recall Méliès. There is even a sequence involving Hitler in hell!
