Fang deployed forces at key passes, but a military intelligence officer, with herbalist Chang Shenglin’s help, cut off enemy communication by reaching the North Peak. A political offensive led to the surrender of the enemy at Qianshi Zhuang, controlling all passages between the North and West Peaks. Trapped, Fang Zhiqiao’s troops, with shattered morale, launched a futile counterattack, leading to his despairing lament.

After being swindled out of his land by a local landlord in 1930s China, a grandfather commits suicide. His son burns down the landlord's house in a fit of rage, then escapes to join the PLA. His grandson later joins the PLA too in the 1940s to avenge his father, grandfather and mother.

In the mid-1950s Henan countryside, communist youth league member Xian Yue responds to the call of the county committee, signing up to participate in the youth commando team, as do the little sisters. Laoxin Yue and other elders firmly oppose the women going up the mountain, think it it is nonsense, unlucky and so on. A huge earthquake struck the city of Jinfeng in the year of 1976. Liu Xu, the proxy for the Gang of Four, locked down the news of the earthquake in order to gain power for them. Party Secretary Li on the other hand, organized all power to help the local people to fight against the aftershocks. This film originally planned during the last period of cultural revolution, with the subplot of criticizing Gang of Four added after the arrests of them. Shot on the ruins of Tangshan earthquake and finished in August 1977, the film only screened once in Guangzhou before failed to pass the censorship and sealed up forever.
