Ernst Fastbom

Mattsson is a fisherman and widower in the Stockholm archipelago. He has two adult daughters that help run the household, Magda and Lena. Lena prefers to shirk her duties and read romance novels. She is being courted by the neighbour boy Per who covers for her whenever he can.

The young married couple Sigvard and Isabella Löfgren are constantly being sought by different companies where they are trading on the bill. Sigvard is a traveling salesman and Isabella works as a secretary at a theatre agency seeking artists for a revue.

Edit Carlson is having trouble courting car mechanic Helge Malm, whose motto is "me mary? - never!", and when he reveals that he's about to receive an inheritance, Edit's sister Tora sets her sight on him as well.

The little town Västerköping needs a new police man - but the only applicant is the small and tiny Fridolf. He gets the job but has to work with the big and strong police inspector Göransson. The town is visited by a crook who has specialized in stealing from local councils. Can this unusual pair stop him?
