Based on the novel by Naguib Mahfouz (The Harafish), the series presents the biography of the popular hero Ashour Al-Naji and his family, as he represents a symbol of principles, values, justice, mercy and fairness to the simple.
Set in Alexandria during the 1940s, at the height of the city's cosmopolitan golden age, Zezenia follows Bishr — the son of an Egyptian father and Italian mother — as he navigates a fractured sense of identity torn between East and West. Against a backdrop of World War II, mixed nationalities, and a society on the brink of change, the series is a sweeping portrait of love, belonging, and the soul of a city.
The events of the series revolve around the story of the rise from the bottom to the top of Abdel Ghafour Al Borai (Noor Al Sharif), starting from the agency of Hajj Ibrahim Sardinah (Abdul Rahman Abu Zahra) until he becomes a private business owner who makes a fortune, during which he has admired Fatima (Abla Kamel), a saleswoman. Al-Kushari, whom he admired, passes the days and marries Fatima and gives birth to his son Abdel-Wahhab (Mohamed Riyad), and four girls (Sunni, Bahira, Nafisa, and Nazira), and despite the availability of the elements of happiness in the life of Abdel Ghafour Al-Borai, he suffered from the separation of his only son.
