This thirty-five section, no-narration, no-music visual story is a true minimalist dialogue with fishermen. Unadorned and unadulterated, Ocean displays a collection of recorded marine images in a plain and simple way. Gazing at the images, one sees a true representation of marine life and the myriad ways humans capture nutrients from the ocean, as well as the ocean’s power to strike back.
Ocean
Wastewater from factories pollutes irrigation networks and contaminates rice fields. The compromised water supplies taints the soil in which rice is grown with dangerous levels of cadmium, chromium and toxic chemicals that then enter the national diet. Getting Dirty
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature once considered the expansive tidal flats connecting the Dadu and Zhuoshui River estuaries in southeastern Taiwan as one of Asia’s most significant wetland areas. This area was once one of Taiwan’s most important bird habitats as well. But the passage of time has increasingly distanced local fishing villages from the sea and its sustenance.

Following the sound of currents, the film reflects on water's shifting states, capturing the emotional and spiritual ties woven between people, memory and the surrounding tides.
