Structured as six interconnected episodes, Rabies depicts cruelty as a contagious force: each character, wounded or humiliated, passes that violence on to another. Robert, an upper-class officer, meets and falls in love with Iris, a house maid. His family will do anything to stop her from marrying him.

Karsten falls in love with Sonja, she rejects him, but not because of lack of interest. She travels to France and he goes after her. They get to know each other and become close.

Knatten and Janne, just released from the prison of Långholmen, meet a romantic Stockholm in the 40s. Knatten tries to earn money while Janne is looking for the music.
