In a world transformed by ETHERNA—a device that enables communication with the dead through their most cherished possessions—the Ethernel team tracks down and interrogates victims' "transitional objects" to solve crimes. David Novack, a detective haunted by his wife's unsolved murder, discovers during an investigation that her killer is still alive. While pursuing this new lead, his path crosses with that of Lara di Angeli, a mysterious Italian police officer who is herself searching for a priceless transitional object.
