Swedish drama series based on Moa Martinson's novel of the same name. When Mia is seven years old, she and her mother move in with a man her mother marries. It is a dream come true, as her mother Hedvig has been supporting herself and her daughter alone as a factory worker in the city, living with relatives. Now they can move from the cramped city to the countryside, to "the house with the white porch," but not everything is idyllic. The marriage is complicated; Mia and Hedvig are very close, but it is not easy for them with everything they have to adapt to in their new life.

1830 Värmland, Sweden. Master Karl Arthur Ekenstedt comes to aid the Minister at Crosss Church. He falls in love with Charlotte Löwensköld, housekeeper in the rectory. They get engaged. Charlotte is full of life, energetic and practical. Karl Arthur struggle with his faith and God.

Jan Froman is a young man with great plans for the future. He gets a job as an assistant janitor at a bank, but with inherited money he starts to buy and sell real estate which eventually increases in value. The world-famous Swedish boxer Flosse travels to Italy to fight for the world boxing title. In Rome he meets the nightclub singer Lollo.

On a tourist trip abroad the passengers on the coach witness an assassination attempt on the President Hurkas. One of the tourists has evidence against the perpetrators, and is killed when the coach reaches Sweden. Another passenger observes how one of the perpetrators is picked up by a yellow car. She is kidnapped and locked up in a mental hospital.
