William MacPhab loses seven-pounds in the stock market and decides to slap the man who was responsible for the stock manipulation that caused him to lose his money. Astor Terbanks, the stock-market manipulator is surprised the next day when he gets soundly slapped by MacPhab, and the latter promises to deliver one more a day for the next six days. Terbank's daughter, Daisy, is amused by the procedure and is attracted to MacPhab.

The young farmer Hinnerk has managed to make something of his estate thanks to the help of his servant Hannes; only his household budget is a mess. One day, Hinnerk notices a pretty young girl at the rail station and immediately recognizes that it’s his childhood friend, Ilske Roehling. Officers stationed in a castle in Flandes during WWI are comforted by Gloria Delamare's recorded voice. One of them even writes her a letter that will never be sent. When the war is over Miss Delamare takes a tour in Belgium and spends a night in that castle. Most unexpectedly her former admirer appears and they dine and dance together. In the morning he has disappeared and she finds the letter. She tries to find him, only to discover he is presumably dead and involved in a family secret.

Young Percy Averhoff returns to Hamburg after a five-year stay abroad and finds that his parents have already found a bride for him. The young man however has his own ideas, and rebelliously answers a contact ad in which a girl is looking for a young man as a companion for a car trip to Southern Germany. Soon the two of them are on the way. What Percy doesn't know is that the damsel is none other than the girl his parents have chosen for him.

Sabine Senden is desperate – she's hopelessly in love with Willi Ulbrich, her mother's lodger. The only problem is, her mother doesn't like the man at all. She even wants to sue him for defamation, since he allegedly called her a "hooded crow" after he and his friends partied all night and kept her awake. Without telling her mother anything, Sabine and Willi secretly marry before the lengthy legal proceedings are even over. Of course, Sabine can't possibly introduce her husband to her mother; so she simply presents Erich, her friend Ulla's fiancé, as her husband.
