In the autumn of 573 AD, the civil war that divides the Celtic nations in the post Romano- Britiain ends at the battle of Arthuet. The Celtic amies disband and the warriors return to their homes, but the losses to the combined Celtic forces are so great that the immigrants from Germania - the Angles who settled along the North Sea, boldly send raiding parties into the Celtic homelands.

Poet and novelist Leonard Cohen travels to Hydra to rewrite his novel. After some time on the island he finds the love of his life Marianne, with her encouragement he sings his poetry - becoming the singer the world knows today.

1815 England. Shipwrecked off Ireland and landed at Watchet Harbour, Somerset, Esmeralda Grimm and her half sister Fancy, set out on the final leg of their journey home to the House of Grimm. Stumbling upon a coven of witches in a ruined church, they flee for their lives and take refuge in a deserted tavern. Befriended by an amorous yokel, they awake to discover their horses stolen. Left to cross the wilds by foot, they are overtaken by a storm and forced to take refuge in a ditch with a tinker whose tales about the beast of the Moor make their night sleepless.

Amber and Nigel, seventeen-year-old daughter Liberty, and Amber?s father Michael, live in London. With Amber and Nigel both made redundant, they are no longer able to pay their mortgage. Facing repossession of their house, they decide to give everything up and go north to Scotland on a camping trip to contemplate their future. Traveling from Transylvania to Scotland by train, the Count's two companions Lucy and Renfield start on a series of changes in order to get the Count over his many fears - sunlight, crosses, bibles, running water, garlic, food and drink.
