Family Ties

As his sexual awareness increases, Gwang-ho no longer likes the scent of his mother, who wears heavy make-up as she sells cosmetics door-to-door. Eun-sook, an assistant nurse who is the complete opposite of Gwang-ho's mother, becomes the object of all of Gwang-ho's attention and affection. Absorbed in his thoughts, Gwang-ho is oblivious of the news of the presidents death and the picture of the new president replacing the late president in his classroom. Gwang-ho receives a letter of luck and starts sending it to people around him. As those people start vanishing, Gwang-ho is racked with guilt, suspecting the letter of luck is the cause of their disappearance.

Commissioned by South Korea's National Human Rights Commission, If You Were Me is an innovative omnibus film project to promote tolerance and human rights and shed light on the hardships disadvantaged people face in Korea. After the success of the first anthology, a second series, If You Were Me 2, was released this year. Five notable Korean directors - Park Kyung Hee (A Smile), Ryoo Seung Wan (Crying Fist), Jung Ji Woo, Jang Jin (Guns & Talks), and Kim Dong Won - participated in the second installment, creating shorts on human rights issues of their choosing.

In a farm, there live a master Dae-Hyeon, Ji-Ae, and a mute Ka-Ya whom they love like a daughter. Also, there is Hyeop who teaches them how to ride a horse once every week. One day, Ka-Ya comes to realize what is sex on the moment of witnessing the scene in which Hyeop is raping Ji-Ae, and she warns Hyeop to don't do that. Surprised, Hyeop runs after and rapes her, and since then, Ka-Ya falls in love with him. Hyeop is move up by Ka-Ya's sincerity and by the time he comes to feel love for her, their relations is disclosed and Hyeop and Dae-Hyeon fight a duel because of it. Shocked at it, Ka-Ya is recovered to speak again. Later, Hyeop and Ka-Ya leave the house as companions of life.
