Alexander Philipopoulos, a famous journalist in a French political magazine, is returning to his birthplace in northern Greece, looking for the truth about his father Lazarus, who lived as political emigrant in the neighboring country of Macedonia.

Set in a small theater at the end of the silent film era, a former movie star clings to the past by screening only silent films. His son grows up in this world, unaware of the changes beyond its walls, until a discovery unsettles his beliefs.

He played for presidents, beggars, miners, kindergarten children, students in cafeterias, field workers, replacing concert halls with maternity wards, graveyards, nursing homes, mine shafts, passenger and military ships, watchtowers, prisons, psychiatric hospitals, as well as squares in the major cities of the world, traveling more than 4 million kilometers with his guitar.

Lost in the labyrinth of his subconscious, Gottlieb struggles to find his way back to reality. Deconstructing his make-believe world puts his life at risk, however, and as his realities collide he becomes aware of his self-imprisonment.
