Alvarenga and Ranchinho have a law firm in a small village and go to Rio de Janeiro to hire artists for the village's radio station.
Determined to secure the release of her father—imprisoned for advocating communism—SĂlvia travels to Rio de Janeiro, where she finds work as a chorus girl at the Cassino da Urca. There, she meets and falls in love with a croupier named Tide. SĂlvia becomes a celebrated beauty of Rio's nightlife but is blackmailed by a Nazi named Jofre; he promises to help free her father if she marries Michael, an Englishman from whom Jofre intends to steal a map to a uranium mine.
Three couples, two already living in Rio; and the third, with 'the one who hates carnival', coming to visit an aunt. One of the women bets that all husbands are unfaithful. They send invitations to their husbands to the carnival ball. They find a pretext to be able to attend. They, in turn, go in disguise, just like the maid. Hence the confusion at the ball, each one dating the other's wife.
A hard working man goes to SĂŁo Paulo to look for his twin brother unaware that he's famous for his lazyness.
