Taxidi Tou Melitos is about the fear that most elderly people experience: approaching death. Leon (Stavros Xenides) and Zaharoula (Betty Livanou) are heading out for their annual vacation at a summer resort. Instead of their usual carefree anticipation, their mood is subdued because their daughter has just married and is off on her honeymoon. Life is lonely without her and the couple cannot avoid the realization that death is not that far away for them. Once at the resort, Leon tries to overcome this nagging fear by taking a wild plunge in the ocean, naked, as he and Zaharoula are out walking on the beach. Taken up in the spirit of the moment, she joins him among the waves. The results, however, are not what they expected.

A veteran general, living poorly but honestly with his wife and his daughter, is visited by his future son-in-law who informs him that he is going to immigrate to Australia. On the same day, his cousin Apostolos pays him a visit as well and tells him that the government intending to honor him has decided to construct his statue and place it at the small square in front of his house.

The murder has been committed by Maria, a noblewoman in love with Giorgis, who is subsequently arrested by the gendarmerie. Thus, Droso is now free to marry Giorgis.

A car electrician, Charis, spends all his money on tailors in order to give the appearance of a "lord". She'll take care of him, and then they'll say goodbye. When Kostas tries to meet Eleni again, he is arrested by the Germans. But he will escape execution, as the rebels will save him from death.
