The film recreates the events of 1905. In the center of the picture is the struggle of the proletariat, led by the Bolshevik party, against tsarism. The demonstration of labor unrest is replaced by episodes of the Russo-Japanese war, Black-Hundred demonstrations, accompanied by a pogrom of Jews, and beating of the intelligentsia. The film paints the attitude of the Mensheviks towards armed insurrection, reproduces the picture of barricade battles, the arrest of the Council of Workers' Deputies and the brutal reprisals of the tsarist autocracy with revolutionaries.

The “Transbalt“ vessel is to deliver a cargo of salt to Far Eastern fishermen who have made increased commitments. The crew makes a counter-commitment to provide the fishermen with salt ahead of schedule. But on the way to Vladivostok, one of the ship's boilers explodes. A storm begins. Overcoming incredible difficulties, the crew completes the task. 

In the ordinary Ukrainian collective farm comes a new music worker, graduated from the Conservatory energetic young girl. She led the fight with the Chairman of the collective farm and accountant, who believed that Amateur music for farmers — something quite optional…

The action takes place in Odesa in 1918-1919. At the request of General Denikin, a French squadron arrives in Odesa to restore order in the city. Odesa Bolsheviks are trying to convince the sailors to leave the city. At the center of the story is the heroic fate of Frenchwoman Jeanne-Marie Lyabourb (1877-1919), shot by French interventionists.
