A young medical student returns to his Tyrolean home to find out that Napoleon's troops have taken over the area and that his mother and sister have been murdered.

An expedition goes in search of a party lost in the Arctic a year earlier.

In a harbor bazaar of the Pacific town of Kona, the young sailor Kiwe is offered a mysterious bottle, which supposedly gives her owner power and wealth and should fulfill all his wishes. The required return is however high. From now on, the soul of the new owner belongs to the devil.

Director Burckhardt is found shot just after making the moves on Gisela Ostercamp, the wife of a business colleague. When the criminal investigator Haupt inspects items in the apartment of the dead man, he comes to the conclusiong that Gisela herself is the murderess and accusations start flying between the married couple. The murdered man's brother, the lawyer Burckhardt, steps up to act as defense counsel for the woman, with whom he has learned to love in the meantime.
