Shot during the Nagorno-Karabakh War, "Fəryad" is only one of its kind. Following the Khojaly Massacre, Ismayil, an officer tasked with collecting the bodies, crosses enemy lines to avenge the brutal murder of a local schoolgirl. There he gets captured by Armenians and waits for the day to be exchanged for an enemy POW.

The film takes place in Karabakh, where Baku students come to help build a settlement for refugees. Among them are two young lovers, Tural and Gunel. One night, they witness a failed sabotage attempt by Armenian militants, which Tural manages to record on his video camera. The footage shows explosions, armed extremists, and an unmarked helicopter, becoming key evidence. Realizing this, the enemies decide to eliminate the unwanted witness.

Being unable to shoot a film about Azerbaijani wedding customs, hopeless director decide to make a film about real wedding event. Though the stubborn father of bride resists approval the plan.

After fulfilling his duty in Afghan War, Zaur returns to his home Baku. He is trying to clarify the truth when he heard that his father was arrested.
