'Saudade' is the portrait of a threshold: the end of high school, which we experience through Miguel. Set amidst the backdrop of the Ecuadorian economic crisis of 1999, 'Saudade' tackles notions of economic dislocation, friendship, family and young love while juxtaposing the crumbling of Miguel's life, against the crumbling of his country.

Vicenta, MarilĂn, Luisa, Victoria and eight other Venezuelan peasant women decided to become economically independent and form Mubay, an organic fertilizer producing cooperative. With the collaboration of different members of the community, they have managed to sustain production, overcoming numerous social and cultural obstacles. Their new challenge is to obtain their own rustic transportation that will allow them to keep production on track, without depending on the favors of neighbors. This search will detonate threats around them that could destroy the project that has kept them together for so long.
