There is a loss in the Zhilin family. The brothers, Nikolai, deputy commander of the Simferopol Berkut, and Andrey, a Moscow surgeon, and their sister, Natalia, a teacher at the Simferopol gymnasium, come to their father's funeral. Many years ago, in the 90s, circumstances separated the brothers and sister in different cities and even countries. A conflict breaks out between them over a house by the sea.
On December 31, 1979, five students come to a sanatorium lost in the Karelian forests to prepare for the New Year's performance. They are led by Associate Professor and the rector's daughter Mymra. Athlete Pasha is going to propose to his girlfriend Katya, but the Associate Professor, who is in love, kidnaps her. Mymra, who has long been jealous of the Associate Professor for young Katerina, arranges a romantic seduction for the Associate Professor. In the midst of a disco party by the pool, the local stoker Vitya intervenes in the fun of the students, an expelled student of the history department who considers himself the descendants of Karelian shamans. He performs a bloody rite, but is mistaken in choosing a victim.

The life of a successful lawyer and law academy teacher Marta Orlova is changing dramatically in just one day. She finds out that Artyom's fiance and colleague is cheating with her student, and her stepfather, the head of Martha's firm, who raised her after her mother's death, takes Artyom's side, because Martha's marriage to the son of Justice General Nikolsky is beneficial to both families. Finding herself without support and the opportunity to continue working with her stepfather and Artyom, Marta decides to open her own law firm, the main profile of which is helping people who are unable to pay for the services of a lawyer on their own.
The secret service conducts demolition work in the area of magnetic anomalies. Purely by accident, it turns out that three men are located in the explosion area: Vladimir Golenko, a criminal, Oleg Malinin, a photographer, and Benedict Tartakovsky, a failed writer. As a result of the explosion, a strange connection begins between those three: a photographer Malinin can read the criminal Golengo’s mind, even see the world around him with the criminal’s eyes, and the writer Tartakovsky can entirely control Golenko’s actions and communicate with Malinin remotely. Tartakovsky, having Golenko come into his full possession, decides to use him to revenge everybody who had ever stood on his way before.
The film is an attempt to recreate the world of Marc Chagall and his myth within the genre of a folklore ballad. We are not exploiting Chagall's images, but are attempting to create a dramatized projection of his creativity onto the movie screen, relying on both, facts and fantasy (as Chagall himself would).The story is based on real events which occurred at the time of Chagall's short-lived period in Vitebskin in 1917-18, during which time he creates the Academy of Modern Art, inspired by his dreams of a bright and beautiful future. Many pictures by Chagall and Malevich are used in the film.
